This Week: Reflections of Me

Finally today, a different kind of reflection. Tomorrow marks the opening reception for the exhibit 600 sq mi: Photos from Houston and this is my photo that made the cut. At one point I thought I would need an artist statement and that was an interesting exercise in itself. Why do I take pictures? What motivates me? What is my style? After many personal reflections, and browsing through my archives, this is what I came up with.

Houston is my muse. I enjoy exploring every aspect, from its well known avenues to its hidden corners. I am especially drawn to capturing the elements of the city that never change. The buildings, the parks, the streets ... the city that we inhabit every day but often walk by without seeing. I want to photograph what I see and share it with the world, because if they only knew the Houston I discover every time I go out with my camera, they would fall in love with it as I have.
